• Parent Involvement

I read an article about parent involvement yesterday, and it got me thinking about the parent workshops we held in the fall at several schools in Austin.  The workshops were a success, and we had positive feedback from all the parents who attended!  One particular parent stood out, as her comment after the session was, “Do you know what you can do to make these better?  Make sure you keep having them!”  Comments like these let us know there was an interest and desire for parents to learn ways to help their children at home.  The obstacle, though, was how can we continue to hold these workshops for parents when the school’s budget is so small?  It becomes frustrating at times knowing that the idea behind it is desired and needed, but the funding behind the idea throws a curve ball into the equation.
I am certain we will find a way (at some point) to continue holding these parent workshops which help parents discover strategies, tips, and tools to reinforce the reading skills.
